Stopping Vaping
You might have started vaping because you wanted to stop smoking and believed that vaping was less harmful than continuing to smoke. Short-term evidence appears to show that vaping is less harmful than smoking, as it exposes you to fewer toxins; however, vaping is not risk-free. Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine, which has adverse health effects, and can also contain toxic chemicals.
Vaping has not been around for long enough to know what the long-term risks might be. There are thousands of e-liquids containing a variety of chemicals, heavy metals, and flavouring additives with tiny particles that are inhaled into the lungs. Current recommendations suggest that if you are using vapes to quit smoking, the aim should be to stop vaping once you are sure you will not return to cigarettes—although there is still debate as to how effectively vaping helps eliminate smoking entirely.
There are also concerns that while the number of people who smoke has reduced, we now have high vaping rates, particularly among those who have never smoked. You may also be experiencing side effects such as throat and mouth irritation, headaches, a cough, or feeling nauseous. While these may reduce over time, we do not yet know the impact they may have in the long term.
Although the long-term implications are not fully known, there is already enough evidence to suggest health risks, alongside concerns regarding the widespread availability of unlicensed vaping devices which can contain many harmful chemicals.
Whether you vape to stop smoking or as a social habit, if you feel it is the right time for your health and wellbeing to stop for good, please get in touch to arrange your session.
